Mr.Mayor ELI MACK
You will always be "the"mayor of Lexington to me. We have lost another great treasure of "old" Lexington.. I remember Eli, Arthur and Jack Gable at Macks grocery on main st..There was always laughter with a smile in the store..Mr. Mayor Mack had the ability to make everyone have a great day..He was and will be deeply missed by many--- whose lives he touched.. He was a blessing to all that knew and loved him.. Now Mr. Mayor it is time to rest.. Thinking of you

I had lots of fond childhood memories of Mr. Mack at the grocery store. He always hooked me up with a coke, hot dog, and candy. For the longest time, I thought his store was the only place you could get that striped gum.

Dear Mack Family,
Your sweet daddy moved into Carroll Campbell Place the week after my mom, Mary June Ward, did last year. We all grew to love your dad so much. I always saluted him and he'd salute back and laugh. My father wept at the news of your father's passing. He considered him a friend after seeing him daily at CCP. When my son would visit his grandma, he always made a point to stop and see your dad. Your dad would tease him and have fun with him. They would rib each other and have such a good time joking around. Last Friday, I saluted your dad, never dreaming it would be the last time, and he saluted back. I told him it was almost time for lunch and I squeezed his hand. I loved speaking to him each day. He made people feel very special because HE was very special. My family was blessed to know him these past 9 months and will never forget him. Our prayers are with you all.

Dear family:Frances and children. there are no words to express the sorrow I feel for your loss. Eli is not to be forgotten - he left his mark on this earth - marks of love, kindness ad a generous heart. In thinking back to the many hours I spent with the family on my numerous visits to Columbia and Lexington, the lingerins memory is of a man who was at peace with himself, his family, his Lord and his country. Nothing negative everything upbeat. He was truly a disciple of the Lord. Sadly I cannot be with you but I will share the Rosary with all of you for Eli at 6pm tonight and tomorrow I will attend Mass at 8AM and pray God will comfort you and ease the pain in your heart, Before I leave let me share this one lasting and enduring memory I have of my brother-in-law, as told to me by my sister, Frances. One evening on their return home from a visit in Columbia Eli was pullled over by a policeman for speeding. As the policeman approached he saw it was the Mayor. He apologized for daring to ticket him and attempted to leave. Eli would not allow him to leave - he was indignant he didn't do his duty as an officer of the law and demanded he issue him a ticket. The officer reluctantly complied. The next day Eli paid that fine as he would expect any citizen to do.

Dear Debbie and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your dad was so much a part of my teen-aged life and I cherish those memories. I still laugh when remembering some of our good times at your home like eating grape leaves and other specialities. Your parents always made me feel welcome, loved and part of your family. Your dad was such an amazing man and servant to his family, church, and community. Even now I can hear that big booming laugh!
May the love you shared and the thoughts of those who love you bring comfort. Know you're in my prayers.

What a sad loss for your family and, if I may add, for the Town of Lexington. When I think of the "old" Lexington that I grew up in, Mr. Eli is one of the first men to come to my mind. Always jovial, full of energy and as friendly as could be. God Bless your family in this time of sorrow.

Aunt Frances and cousins....I think you know how much I love(d) Uncle Eli.
Uncle Eli, as has been said so lovingly by so many, was the true success of a man. He loved God, his family and heritage, he loved his country and loved his neighbor with his whole heart and soul. He effortlessly earned the love of everyone he met.
His life was one of charity, peace and love...and I will always cherish his memory.
SO I say to my Uncle Eli...
"' boos hyee' I love you. You touched my life."
Much love

I am so blessed to have had you as such positive influence during my vulnerable teen years. The times I spent with Debbie in you home were some great times. And, with every, nearly daily, trip to Mack's Grocery, my family and I were always treated like a part of your family. It was also a pleasure to know that, as I matured and become an active part of the Lexington Community, you considered me a friend and that is such a great honor. I pray that all your family and friends find much comfort in remembering all the good that you accomplished during your time with us. God Blessed us with you and but now he needs you home. Give my parents a BIG HUG as I miss them both so much, and I hope that we will meet again when it is my turn to return home. Love to your family, Mary Kennerty Roof

I remember Mr. Mack very fondly. Always jovial and good hearted. I grew up with Eli and Delle Marie. We played together for many years as children. I remember eating many many meals in their home and having Eli and Delle eat at our home as we were growing up. To the family, may the Grace of our Lord and his healing love and comfort surround each of you in the days ahead.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Whenever I think of Uncle Eli the words Christian, generous, kind, and hysterically funny come to mind. I feel truly blessed to have been a part of his family and cherish the fun and fond memories I have of the many summers spent in Lexington. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye and I can still hear his laughter.
May God bless you all during this difficult time. Uncle Eli will be in my prayers daily and my heart forever.
Much love,
